Valetin Perla Blanca, Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba
Travelling to Cuba while 6 month pregnant, this was my second baby-moon trip. I was pretty skeptical of travelling to Cuba, but very excited when I landed there. It was 4 hrs flight from Edmonton to Toronto with a layover of 3 hrs and then another 3 hrs flight to Cuba.
It was a beautiful oceanic 1.5 hr drive from Santa Clara to Cayo Santa Maria through a 49 km causeway to the Cayos. Once we reached the newly-opened resort, the feel was refreshing with the beautiful ocean breeze.
The beach was beautiful. Surrounded with rocks and no weeds, it was very spectacular. The resort was ok, but there were some things that we didn't like - people smoking inside the resort.. I guess being Canadian, I never thought people would ever smoke indoors in a resort.
The food was okay, but I felt understanding English was a problem for the staff. Being selective in my eating due to my pregnancy, the staff weren't able to understand while I try to speak in basic English with them.
However, the resort is beautifully built and designed and has a beautiful wooden bridge to walk to the beach.
Being newly-opened, I would give it another chance for sure. Do explore and let us know!
